Design Manual for Purlin & Cladding Rail Systems

We offer the most comprehensive range of purlin and cladding rail systems available in today's marketplace. This wide variety is the direct result of the policy of continuous product development to meet the markets changing needs. Our extensive ranges of Zeta, Zeta II and traditional Zed products, plus ancillary sections and accessories, offer customers a choice of systems with specific benefits, enabling us to satisfy individual requirements in the most cost-effective way possible. Ayrshire consistently quote the most economically designed systems for all kinds of applications.

Full details can be found in our Technical Manual. The load tables within this document conform to the requirements of BS5950:Part 5:1987 and have been developed from a combination of rational analysis and full scale testing carried out at the University of Salford.

A growth market for the company over the past ten years has been in the development of lightweight galvanised structural beams used in a wide variety of construction projects.

Light steel framing offers an alternative approach for the construction of many types of buildings from domestic to medium rise. Numerous benefits are available when compared with masonry and timber building structures.

AyrFrame is a galvanised steel modular building system, using cold rolled steel sections to form the structural frame for hotels, nursing homes and apartments of the highest quality, but at an affordable price.

AyrFrame factory finished modules and panels have been recently used for hotel projects ranging from 2/3 star to 4 star quality for major Hotel chains including Post House and Holiday Inn Express.

AyrFrame represents a major advance in technical performance, with a high fire resistance, low sound transmission and excellent thermal qualities, coupled with the ability to build up to eight storeys without a separate structural frame.

AyrFrame allows the most rapid form of construction, typically 35% faster than masonry construction.

Swagebeam

Swagebeam is an Ayrshire patented range of light weight pre-galvanised structural beams which has achieved particular success in the mezzanine floor market and in the assembly of light weight portal frame structures.

The profile is C shaped and is available in depths of 220, 250, 300mm and in a range of thicknesses from 1.2 to 3.0mm. It takes its name from the "swages" which are incorporated along the middle of the web to help increase the structural capacity of the section and its connections.

The system has been extensively tested at the University of Salford and the company has also won a Design Council Award.

The product is roll formed to exact length to suit a wide variety of applications. Location holes are pre punched within the rollforming line utilising CNC punching equipment.

A full range of brackets and connecting cleats are also manufactured at the Daventry site.

The mezzanine floor version of Swagebeam utilises primary beams which are paired back to back.

Secondary beams are fixed using special cleats to give a flush floor zone. In mezzanine floor applications where head room and access are critical, the system offers an inset arrangement of secondary beams connected within the web of the primary beam.

The Swagebeam interlocking system has the affect of stiffening the structure and eliminating the need for vertical bracing. The Swagebeam system is also fully capable of supporting the various types of flooring material currently in use i.e. chipboard or cement particle board.
